Does the throttle cable Go to the carburetor?
Install the opposite ends of the throttle cables to the carburetor or throttle body, tightening the threaded ends of the cable guides into the cable bracket completely. Slide the cables’ barrels into the valve catches and twist the throttle tube slightly to check that the valves open and close properly.
Are throttle and idle cables the same?
They are not interchangeable. The difference isn’t just the spring, the part that presses into the housing on the handlebar is a different size too for each cable, they only go in one way, so you can’t replace a throttle with a idle or and idle with a throttle cable.
Why does my Harley have 2 throttle cables?
A push/pull throttle cable is an upgrade to the old standard single throttle cable linkage. The throttle grip works on the carburettors when twisting/throttling up and when releasing/throttling down. The second cable pulls the carb closed so it isn’t stuck wide open.
Are throttle cables universal?
In today’s modern vehicles, throttle cables are obsolete with the widespread use of drive-by-wire throttle pedal assemblies. Our universal throttle cable offerings fit most any application or engine type and mounting location.
How do you remove throttle cable from carburetor?
To remove the throttle cable, first pull the rubber on the cable. Then unscrew the locknut, which is closest to the carburetor, from the throttle cable. The locknut is attached to the tubular L – shaped fitting which comes out of the triangular cover on the brake side of the quad.
How do I know if my throttle cable is bad?
Signs of a bad accelerator cable
- The pedal feels stiff or hard to depress.
- The pedal sticks and does not release normally.
- There is slack in the pedal’s movement.
- There is a rough or abnormally low idle.
- The engine stalls.
- There is a delay in response when you push the pedal down.
How tight should throttle cable be?
The accelerator cable tension is usually set so that 2-3mm of free play is present in the throttle grip. Once the correct tension has been applied, the lock nuts should be snugged and any dust covers should be slid back over the adjusters. Cables can be adjusted using the appropriate size wrench.
What is an idle cable?
The idle cable, as noted is just a safety feature. It can also come in handy as a spare, if your throttle cable breaks while you’re on the road, you can rig the idle cable to function as a throttle cable, (your throttle would operate in reverse, though).
